Q: How Does Your Garden Grow?

A: Hopefully better than last year's!

We are trying our hand at gardening again, but this year we got an earlier start and hope to have better results than last summer. We planted long beans, watermelons, okra and carrots this weekend. We have a few more things we might try in pots. Can't wait to see what happens!

One of my favorite things about having a garden is watching Spencer water it each morning. It's a nice little ritual and peaceful way to start the day. Stay tuned for updates!

Yard Work and the Eclipse

We spent a lot of time working the yard this weekend and Spencer was interested in operating the leaf blower by himself. So he put on his handy ear protectors and had at it.

When we got back from dinner that evening, Daddy made a pinhole-eclipse-viewer-thingy and we saw the solar eclipse starting. I'm not sure Spencer really understood what that was all about, but he listened carefully as Daddy explained.

I read today that there will be a total solar eclipse in 2017, but we won't see it in Texas. Might have to plan a road trip for that one!

Mr. Moneybags

Last week Spencer and I took a field trip to Bank of America. You see, Paw-Paw has been saving change for Spencer for quite awhile, so we had several Zip-loc bags full of change in the house. Instead of taking it to a CoinStar machine and losing 9% of his loot, we took it to the bank. Our bank doesn't have a change machine in-house, so they sent it away to be counted. Then a few days later a credit appeared in our account. Would you believe Spencer had $138.40 in change? Combined with the piggy bank money he already had, the boy has enough to buy something really neat. He's talking about getting an electric guitar...

A Visit to the Dentist

Earlier this month, Spencer had his second dental checkup. Daddy said he was a total champ - not nervous at all. I hope he keeps a good attitude about the dentist...definitely something his mommy has always struggled with. He got a good report, but the dentist said we need to pay extra close attention to cleaning those back molars. It's tricky to get back there!

(Funny - I just realized he's wearing the same shirt he wore to his first checkup.)

A Sweet Mama's Day

What a nice Mother's Day I had! When we woke up, the boys let me stay in bed for a little while, then they brought me a cup of coffee and some presents. Spencer had to keep the gifts a secret for a few days and it just about did him in. He was excited and wanted to tell me what they bought. The evening after they went shopping, he whispered in the bathtub, "I won't tell you about the chocolates, just the other stuff."

They did in fact buy me some yummy chocolates and super comfy/pretty loungewear, 'cause Mommy likes to lounge! Oh, and Spencer made me the prettiest, sparkly flower pin that I proudly wore all weekend. I will treasure it!

I put in a request to go to Bouldin Creek Cafe for breakfast, and they were happy to oblige. After that, we strolled around The Natural Gardener for about an hour, then went to a neat place called Revival Market. They had a funny photo booth set up and we took a couple of pictures.

After resting for a little while back at home and eating lunch, we ventured out to Central Market for gelato, then Spencer helped me cook dinner. It was a perfectly lovely day and I felt perfectly spoiled.

Peter Pan Mini Golf

Daddy and Spencer went to Peter Pan Mini Golf (on Spencer's suggestion) for the first time last week. I was a little bummed to miss out on that, but no worries! We went back this weekend. I hadn't been there in many, many years. It's had a facelift recently and is looking sharp. We got there right when they opened at 9:00 a.m. and thank goodness we did - it was already getting super hot when we finished. Spencer needed a lemon-lime sno-cone to cool off afterwards.

Unlike his mommy, Spencer is very patient when playing putt-putt. He just keeps whacking away at the ball until is goes in. I played, too, but for most of the holes I was only "allowed" to hit the ball once, then Spencer took over. I didn't mind - he's fun to watch in action.

And by the way, who is that big boy in the last two pictures?? My goodness!

Pebble Beach Time

Pop took Daddy on a trip of lifetime to play golf in Pebble Beach last month. I wish I had shot video of when he got home and Spencer ran outside to greet him. Beyond adorable. But here's a little footage of Spencer opening his Pebble Beach souvenirs.

And a sweet lil' picture of my boys sporting their new caps.

We spent some time with Paw-Paw while Daddy was gone, both in Austin and Angleton.

 Another fun golf update soon...
