Snow Day

The Austin meteorologists finally got it right. Snow! We didn't get as much as our friends in north Austin, but we had several good bursts of fat, globby snowflakes throughout the day. After missing our first opportunity to get some pictures outside (by the time I got our coats and shoes on the snow had turned to sleet...), we jumped outside the next time it started up. Spencer ran around and had a blast experiencing his first snow. Check out the February web album for all the pictures.

Zilker Zephyr

Sunday was the most gorgeous day we've seen in a long time, so like thousands (millions?!) of other Austinites we headed to Zilker Park. We rode the train for the first time—a rite of passage. Spencer had fun running around while Daddy waited in line to buy our tickets.Good thing we soaked up that sunshine because tomorrow it's supposed to snow. What??

Spencer's First Run-In with the Law

Spencer called 911 yesterday. I heard a voice when I took the phone to hang up, but I thought it was the "If you would like to make a call, please hang up and try again" message you get when you mis-dial a number. But then I saw 911-1115 on the screen... I guess I should've called back, but for some reason I wasn't convinced the call had gone through. Then the police arrived 15 minutes later... Oops!

Valentine's Day

So, I said I would blog about Valentine's Day...because I was feeling so crummy, we kept it pretty low key. I couldn't even sing my traditional Valentine's Day song to Dave because my voice was almost gone. (Yes, he did miss it!) Anyway, after Spencer's almost 3-hour marathon nap, we grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at Dong Nai. Spencer had fun opening his goodie bag and finding a couple of books and photo magnets inside. Of course he loved the card, especially because it had a magnet on the cover.

Besides Valentine's Day, I have two other neat things to remember/celebrate each February 14th: It was my great-grandmother's birthday and also the day we went to the doctor in 2008 and confirmed I was indeed pregnant. I can't really think of a nice/cute/witty way to wrap up this entry, so I'll just say how much I enjoyed spending the day with my two sweet Valentines.

Quick Trip to the Ranch

We haven't celebrated Valentine's Day with Spencer yet. We've all been a little under the weather - Spencer even went to see Dr. Bayer this week, who told us it looked like a mild case of croup (though it didn't seem like croup to me...at least what I've been told croup is like). Anyway, I woke up feeling much worse today, but Daddy presented me with some chocolate pastries and Mucinex (after letting me sleep in), and I'm starting to feel better. When Spencer wakes up from his nap, we'll press the reset button on V-Day and I'll report on it later.

We met Pop and Geep at the ranch on Friday for a quick one-night visit before they leave for their big trip. Spencer took Geep and me for a drive in the EZ-Go.

While we were playing on the porch, Spencer picked up a leaf that was shaped like an airplane. He started saying "jet" and was making the leaf fly through the air while he made airplane noises. We had never seen him do anything like that before so of course I had to grab the camera and encourage him to do it again.

Jet!

Spencer loves jets. Daddy called the airport this week and found out about an outdoor area where people can hang out to watch airplanes take off and land. It was too muddy to let Spencer run around, so no pics of him, but you get the idea. It was a very "WOW" experience and I'm sure the boys will make this a regular outing. Hopefully they'll let Mommy tag along next time!

This Day in History

I love looking back to see how far we've come in a year. Last February 5th, Spencer was a day shy of 4 months old and just figuring out his Jumpster. This year, we have an almost 16-month-old toddler who charms and amazes us every day. Time has never seemed to pass as fast as it does now.
