Spending Time with Cousins

Spencer got to have some good cousin time the last few days. On Thursday, he and Geep picked up Audrey and Hyelom at the airport and went to the ranch for an overnighter. They swam, fished, rode the EZ tractor and played in the sandbox. Daddy picked up Spencer Friday and he was wiped out. He slept all the way home, then collapsed in my lap and slept for another two hours there and in our bed. Napping until 6:30...whew!

We went to Lisa and Ric's Saturday evening and Spencer had a blast playing with Sarah and visiting with family. The kids bounced on the trampoline, played the piano, climbed all over the playscape and once again we had one exhausted (and dirty!) critter when we got home.

Roll over Beethoven

Sunday was Sarah's 3rd birthday party. Spencer dove right into the activities at The Little Gym. We were cracking up because it was an instructor-led class, but our little non-conformist had his own agenda for part of the time. Afterward, we went to Ken and Nicole's house to open gifts and visit. Spencer fell asleep before we got home and did not want to wake up, so Daddy enlisted him to help water the garden. It was a great weekend!

Our Efforts Have Not Been Squashed

Our gardening experiment is still going strong. The yellow squash have huge blossoms, the acorn squash are just starting to blossom, and the watermelons have some small flowers and curly vines shooting out, too. Still hoping we have something to harvest in another 60 days or so. But even if we don't, we have had so much fun tending the garden and we will definitely plant a fall garden on schedule.

Horridge Construction

Paw-Paw came up for a spur-of-the-moment visit yesterday and it was Christmas in July. Our motto at Horridge Construction is, "Hard Hats Required, Pants Optional."

Fresh Friday

Spencer got a fresh haircut today. Looking like a big boy these days.

A Poem for Parents

"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you, they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth...
Let your bending in the archer's hands be for happiness."

-Khalil Gibran
