Cape Cod Vacation

I've been feeling a little daunted by the prospect of blogging about our vacation. We did so much and had such an amazing time that it feels difficult to capture it in words and pictures. I posted the August photo album. We have many, many more photos, but I think these give you a good overview of our activities. I will definitely give a day-by-day report soon... but for now, please take a peek into what was a magical week with the Horridges and Loves at Tamarack Lake Estates.

Cold and Dizzy

Daddy took Spencer to Barton Springs for the first time today. He said it was "COLD!"

They called me on the way home to see if I could take an ice cream break, then picked me up and we went to Amy's for a quick treat. I took this video of Spencer spinning on the playground. (I can't figure out why my videos are no longer working on mobile devices...the mystery continues...)

It was a fun summer day in south Austin!

C-E-R-V-E-Z-A

We went out for Mexican food tonight. Spencer pointed to one of the neon signs above the bar and said, "C-E-R-V-E-Z-A. Beer!" Another proud moment in parenting. :)

I found a stack of Spencer quotes that I never blogged, so here's a few more recent (and not so recent) memorable things that have come out of our boy's mouth.
  • Calls pop-tarts "parp-tarts" and popsicles "icicles."
  • Invented a couple of new games, including Toe Chair (you touch your toe to a chair); Dinosaur Roar (run around in a circle then roar like a dino); Jump and Hide (you can probably figure out that one). These are in addition to our all-time favorite You Stay Here, I'll Go Find You.
  • Spencer was playing cars and I was sitting in a chair looking at a magazine. He closed my magazine and said, "You're done." (This is an oldie from back in December.)
  • Mommy: "What should we get Pop for his birthday?"
    Spencer: "An ice cream cone?
  • "What's a mermaid? Did we see one at the zoo?"
  • "I certainly like this plant."
  • Mommy: "Do you remember how you and Grannie used to put birdseed in her yard for the birds?
Spencer: "I do remember. That was fun. I love her." (Spencer has said a lot of sweet things about Grannie lately, but I think I'll save those for another day...)
  • "This certainly is a nice smoothie, Mommy. I like pineapples."
  • "I hope they bring hummus." (While waiting for Kristin, Jeff and Luke to come over for brunch.)
  • "Mommy, you're such a sweet mommy."
  • "Did it snow last night?" (Said the second he opened his eyes one hot July morning.)
  • Mommy: "I think you're an artist."
    Spencer: "No, I'm a cowboy."

Garden Update

We found this little guy growing in our garden this week. For those of you keeping score, we now have three yellow squash and this little watermelon (how cute is that?). The squash are growing really fast - we hope they won't be ready for harvest until we get back from vacation.

Follow the Light to the Love (aka Big Music)

Daddy heard this song on his way home yesterday and played it for us when he got home. Spencer loved it and kept referring to it as "big music." There was some serious dancing going on before dinner.

Note: I have to apologize for the blog craziness this morning! I've been posting, deleting, editing, re-posting... I think we should be set now. :)

I Made a Cake

This is a game we play with Spencer a lot. It comes in handy when we sense grumpiness or a meltdown coming on.

Note: I've been experimenting with videos this morning. Long story, but I have to email videos to myself before posting on Vimeo (otherwise they can't be viewed on mobile devices - I don't understand why...), and this one was too large. So I uploaded straight into Blogger. For those of you who get alerts when the blog is updated, sorry! :)

Fun with Friends

I've been slacking on blog posts lately, so I will borrow one from Steffani...Head over to her blog to read about a fun cookout we had this weekend while our good friend Christa was in town.
