Punk Rocker

Even though Tracy trimmed Spencer's hair again last week, he can still rock a really good mohawk in the tub.

Beach

We went to visit Grannie and Paw-Paw over the weekend and decided since Spencer wakes up at the crack of dawn, we might as well go on an early morning field trip to Surfside Beach. This was Spencer's first time to see the Gulf of Mexico and experience a beach. First we walked along the jetties and saw big boats and lots of people fishing.

Then we drove a couple of miles down the beach and Spencer got to put his toes in the surf for the first time. Paw-Paw was very shocked that we didn't have to chase him the whole time or rescue him from the water. He stayed in the shallow water, having fun digging in the sand and watching the tiny mussels burrowing.

Sunday night when I was putting him to bed I said, "I had so much fun with you this weekend." He got the biggest smile on his face and said, "Beach, digging, dirt, boats!" I guess he enjoyed it, too.

Father's Day

We had a nice Father's Day. Spencer made Daddy a pretty card and gave him a neat book called The Outdoor Book for Adventurous Boys because they like to have adventures. Daddy also got some new clothes. We went to Hoover's for an amazing brunch (why is that gravy SO good?), then the boys took me to Mueller Park. I can see why they like to go there so often! We played on the playground, looked a neat rocks, and checked out the fish, ducks and geese.

Dave watched the U.S. Open for much of the afternoon while Spencer and I played, then we all ate dinner together. It was a really nice day. Spencer is so lucky to have such a loving, giving, fun, adventurous Da-Da! If you have any doubts about how fast Spencer is growing up, check out this picture from last Father's Day.

P.S. My camera was acting weird this weekend, so a lot of the pictures in the June photo album are not very good...

Summertime Fun

We went to a BBQ at Coy and Charity's house over the weekend. They had a moonwalk and the kids had a blast in it. Spencer's friend Gracie helped him jump SO high!

What happens when you go to check out a neighborhood splashpad but it's closed for maintenance? Daddy makes a splashpad in the front yard. Problem solved.

20 (Yes, TWENTY) Months Old

Spencer hit the 20-month mark on Sunday. He's no longer in his "teens!" The past month has been so much fun. He's really communicating with us—saying more and more words, putting together 2-3 word "sentences" and asking "What's that?" a lot. And everything is "big." Sometimes he'll sing things like, "Big, big truck. Big, big jet. Big, big tractor." We've also noticed that sometimes in the evenings he will sort of recount the day. If we had been around an upset child, for example, he might say with a concerned look, "Baby. Cry."

He also learned to say his name—at first it was a quiet little whisper. Here's the first time we caught it on tape:

A few days later, I was changing his diaper and out of the blue he pointed to his chest and loudly proclaimed, "Spencer!"

We have made major strides on the sleep front in the last month and are so proud of Spencer for sleeping all night, every night. Last night I put him in his crib, said a little prayer and a few parting words; he propped himself up on one elbow and said, "Night-night Mama" then lay his head down and closed his eyes. If you had told us even 2 months ago that something like this was possible, we would never have believed it. It is awesome!
