Weekend at Pine Fork

The boys went to the ranch Friday afternoon to hang out with Geep and Pop. I joined them Saturday morning. This is what I saw when I drove in -  Spencer and Geep on a nature walk:

This was followed by a lunch and a little fishing.

After Pop and Geep left Saturday afternoon, we ventured out to the south pasture for some (sweaty)bluebonnet photos. Our budding photographer got in on the action behind the camera - he snapped the one of Dave and me.

Then we cooked burgers and ate dinner on the porch. Fun day!

The next morning, Daddy and Spencer took a padddle boat ride before we closed up the ranch and headed back to Austin to go to the spring scrimmage at DKR stadium. More on that later...

Rhyme Time (Revised!)

If you read this post earlier today, you were probably really confused because it made no sense! I goofed it up. Fixed now...

I just remembered a cute story from Spencer's ranch visit. Geep taught him a new rhyming game and it went something like this...

Geep: "I'm thinking of a word that rhymes with 'think'."
Spencer: "Pink?"
Geep: "No, it's where you wash the dishes."
Spencer: "Dishwasher!!"

Bicycle Bell, Ranch Trip, Quotes

Dave shared this video with me last night from their Veloway trip a couple of weeks ago. (Sidenote: Videos still perplex me...my Vimeo videos won't play on mobile devices...maybe YouTube will work?)

Spencer spent Thursday night at the ranch with Geep and Pop. I drove out after work Friday. The weather put a damper on the usual ranch activities, but Spencer got to do a little fishing on Thursday before the rain started. He reeled in a couple of fish for Pop, but he also cast his own line (with a hook this time) and caught a little bass. All by himself! A pretty big day for Spencer and Pop. He had a great time at Pine Fork!

Just a couple of quick quotes while I'm here.

  • While discussing what Spencer wanted for a late morning snack...
Me: "How about some peanut butter toast?"
Spencer: "No, I need something patricious."
    Me: "Patricious?"
    Spencer: "Something good for me.

  • "Daddy, chocolate frozen yogurt is NOT as good as chocolate ice cream."
That's all for now!

Thanksgiving at Pine Fork

We had a really nice Thanksgiving at Pine Fork. This year we did a combo family event. From the Rives/Ruston side we had Paw-Paw, Aunt Dianne, Uncle Scott, Aunt Renee, Steven and Chris. From the Horridge/Smith side we had Geep, Pop, Aunt Janice, Uncle Gary, Austin, Uncle Rick, Aunt Susan, Shelby and Eric. We thought about Grannie a lot, but being all together in a relaxing environment like the ranch really helped!

We didn't take a lot of pictures, but here are a few scenes from the day, including Pop and Spencer fishing; Uncle Gary and Spencer hanging peanut butter pine cones for the birds; Dave carving the turkey; EZ tractor rides; and a fun family photo in front of the Spencer Spruce, which, along with some other trees on the property, was beautifully decorated for the holiday.

Oh, and did I mention that the Texas Longhorns beat the Texas A&M Aggies 27-25? Hook 'Em!

Father's Day Recap

We spent Father's Day weekend at Pine Fork with Pop and Geep. And as an added bonus, Paw-Paw met us at the ranch Sunday morning then drove back to Austin and spent the night with us. We gave Pop an inflatable swimming pool, so there was lots of splashing around to keep cool, in addition to all the usual activities. It was Paw-Paw's first time at the ranch, so Spencer was excited to show him around on the EZ-Tractor (and point out the Toothache tree), show him how good he can cast his fishing pole, and play in the sandbox together. We had a nice weekend and loved celebrating the wonderful fathers in our lives!
