We had a nice little Valentine's Day. Spencer doesn't go to school on Fridays, so the day before he brought his big homemade Valentine to share with his class. Like I mentioned last year, Nature's Way does not encourage trading Valentines at school because of the frustration and confusion that can cause the young 'uns. This year his heart featured LEGOS, a tiger, a jet, art, soccer, the school playground and a hike with Daddy. Sweet.
On Valentine's Day Spencer opened his gifts - The Jungle Book DVD and his first box of Valentine's chocolates (which he hasn't eaten - just not a sweets guy). I also found a perfect card for him featuring fish jokes and decoder to find the answers.
Mommy and Daddy also each got a box of chocolates. Then that night we cooked a delicious steak dinner. It was the best steak Daddy has ever made! Spencer worked on the mashed potatoes and I made asparagus. It was a family effort and a lovely evening celebrating my two loves.

My Funny Valentine
Instead of exchanging valentines at Nature's Way, the kids were to make a valentine at home with their family and bring it to school to show their classmates. I had all sorts of ideas about Spencer's valentine, but learned the lesson (again) that sometimes you just have to let the child lead. While working on it, he excitedly grabbed a brown marker and drew a big blob in the center of the heart. He explained it was poop... because he loves that he learned to poop in the potty. And to make sure everyone understood what it was, he spelled it out in sticker letters. He was proud of his work and so were we. It might not be the fancy, glittery, Pinterest-worthy creation I had envisioned, but it was from the heart and that's the best kind of valentine!
And speaking of things from the heart, I just don't see how anything can be better than a homemade valentine from your child. Just makes me so sentimental. I will cherish this heart forever.

Valentine's Day 2012
Since Valentine's Day is all about love, we decided to give Spencer something we knew he'd REALLY love: a real guitar. He's been asking for one a lot lately, and when Paw-Paw offered to contribute to the guitar fund, we figured this was a good time to surprise our boy. Apologies for the longish run time - I need some video editing software in my bag of tricks...
This was kind of a weird V-Day. I woke up sick in the middle of the night (yes, again...) and spent the day trying to work in between feeling like I wanted to curl up and disappear. Even though Spencer doesn't go to school on Tuesdays, he was invited to join his classmates in the morning for their Valentine's Day party. Daddy took care of getting Spencer to and from the party, then they went out for a gentlemen's lunch at Chili's. I was hoping I would rebound in time for our little friend Cy's birthday party in the afternoon, but alas, the boys were on their own again. And here's where things got really interesting... Midway through the party Spencer started telling Daddy that he didn't feel well. So they headed out and he fell asleep in the car. Just as they pulled into the driveway, the poor guy threw up all over the place. Daddy was such an MVP and took care of cleaning up the car and carseat.
The guys made me feel special with some really sweet cards and some yummy chocolate. Spencer painted a little canvas for Dave - I'll have to get a picture of that... Hope your day was filled with love, too!
