Golf Quote

I can't believe I forgot to include this one in my last entry. While watching the Masters golf tournament Spencer said, "Daddy, I want to play in this tournament someday." Then a few seconds later, just before Daddy's head exploded, "If you hit the ball in the sand does that mean you get to go in there and play?"

Fun Age

Having a preschooler makes life so fun. I love seeing the wonder and magic of the world through Spencer's eyes. I get such a kick out of seeing him curious and excited about so many things. For example, last night when we were leaving a restaurant he excitedly pointed out a flashing arrow sign.  I mean we take flashing arrow signs for granted all the time, right? And they're pretty. A nice reminder to slow down and take a look around.

A few recent things I want to remember:
  • Everything happened "2 weeks ago."
  • "Mommy, I love you as I love to eat oatmeal. Amen."
  • "You smell good! Why are you so smelly, Mommy?"
  • When I was preparing for my recent band concert, we listened to a CD of the music we were going to play - a lot! Spencer loved it, especially Peter Gunn. The first time he heard it he said (in a very sly voice), "I can tell I'm gonna like this one..." And now every time we play it in the car he says, "Can you start it over because I REALLY like this." Watching him conduct the music makes me a happy camper.
  • When he won a yo-yo that ended up being broken: "Well Daddy, I guess it's your broken yo-yo now. It's not stable enough for me."
Also memorable but in a different way... Spencer busted out with his first curse word recently. I didn't want to make a big deal of it, but I wanted to know where he heard it. I said, "Spencer, you're not in trouble, but that's just not a nice word and we shouldn't say it. Where did you hear it?" Well, turns out he heard it from Mommy (a long time ago, he said)! Another proud parenting moment... He said it in front of Geep last week, but he hasn't said it since then, other than to tell me he's not going to say that word anymore. Of course, when he tells me that, he says the word! Stinker.

Yard Sale Crafting

Yesterday morning we all went to breakfast at Kerbey Lane. On the way home we saw signs for a yard sale down the street, so Spencer and I walked down there to inspect the goods. We bought a big tub of construction paper, a birdhouse kit (Spencer's idea) and a salad spinner. Yep, a good old fashioned salad spinner. I've been meaning to get one to do an art project - sort of a homemade version of the cool spin art we would do at the fair when I was little.

We had so much fun with spin art that we did it again this morning. Now to figure out how to display them...

Today Daddy and Spencer assembled the birdhouse we bought. Spencer was so careful hammering the nails and did a great job.

They painted a base coat and then later when Piper was over visiting she helped them with their camouflage paint technique. It came out really cute and now we have a sweet little birdhouse in our yard - along with some "bird duplexes" that Paw-Paw gave us recently.

Other than a party we went to Saturday evening, the weekend was unstructured and slow. I love these kinds of weekends!

Smashing Cascarones

Just realized I never posted this video of Spencer trying to smash a cascarĂ³n mid-air at Geep and Pop's on Easter afternoon. Love his determination!

Flippin' Pancakes

Spencer has been helping me in the kitchen for a long time but today was definitely a milestone. He was in charge of flipping the pancakes! He was very proud of his work. The only downside is I have a feeling we're going to be eating a lot of pancakes around here...

Day at the Museum

On Tuesday, Spencer said he wanted to go to the Texas Memorial Museum on the UT campus. If you've never been there, you should put it on your list - it's an interesting museum with lots of fossils, dinosaurs, gems & minerals, and a working paleontology lab. And it's free! It was closed for several months for renovations, so this is the first visit in awhile. Here are a couple of fun pictures Dave sent me because I was really missing my boys and wanted to be tuned into what they were up to.
