Big Boy Stroller - Holla!

We finally pulled the trigger on a BOB Revolution stroller. It is awesome! All part of our "be a fit family" plan.

I updated the March photo album for the last time and added an album for April. Here's a preview:

Teething Report

Spencer has his first tooth. It's not all the way in yet, so it's tricky to get photo evidence, but I'll keep trying. I first felt it about two weeks ago (5.5 months) while he was gnawing on my fingers. I finally saw it a few days later. He's been a bit restless at night, which is understandable - it must hurt for a tooth to erupt. We've been giving him Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets and they seem to give him some relief. Watching him "eat" those tablets makes me think we're not going to have a hard time introducing solids to the boy... I also ordered a cool maple teething ring from etsy.com and he loves chewing on it (see before and after below).

Grannie came back for a few days to hang out with Spencer while David worked on a spur-of-the-moment job. What a major help to us, and lots of fun for Spencer (and Grannie!). Spencer and I also went to Columbus for Great-Grandma Rives' 93rd birthday. We'll be seeing Geep and Pop this weekend to celebrate Geep's birthday.

I took Spencer to postnatal yoga yesterday. When we went several months ago, I feared they would ask us never to return! But he did so much better this time - he giggled and played and had so much fun. Doing yoga with a 20-plus pounder is quite a workout for me, too. I need all the arm muscle I can build to handle him!

The March photo album has been updated. Teaser for next time: Daddy just left to make a purchase that all three of us are going to love!

Five Months Old

Spencer turned 5 months old on March 6th. He is really getting big. He's starting to sit up on his own, sleeping on his side, getting lots more hair, and we still suspect he's teething but no firm evidence yet. I realized this week that I waited too long to start dressing him in his 6-9 month gear—it's almost all too small. We are anxious to find out his weight Tuesday when we go in for some vaccinations.

Quick updates since last post:

Grannie and Pawpaw came to help out with Spencer while Dave had a belated 40th birthday golfing extravaganza with some buddies. Great-Grandma Hill got to stop by, too. While they were here, Dave and I had our first outing since Spencer came on the scene. Okay, it was only for 1.5 hours and Spencer was asleep the whole time, but it was a big deal to us! Baby steps...

Aunt Carol came to Austin from NY to meet Spencer. They really hit it off and we all had a great visit. We also went to San Antonio to see Geep and Pop—Spencer's first trip to their house.

Spencer has started to take an interest in our cats. He lunged for Olive on the bed the other day, and this weekend he grabbed the top of her head. He also let out a big belly laugh at Henry. I'm afraid those kitties don't know what's about to hit them.

I updated the January-February photo album and added a March photo album on Picasa. I'll add more photos during the month.

Be Mine

Dave and I are sentimental today because it was last Valentine's Day that we had our first doctor's appointment to confirm that there was indeed a baby on the way. What a year this has been. Spencer wishes you all a very happy V-Day!

Four Months Old...Already?

Spencer turned four months old on the 6th. He saw Dr. Bayer this week for two vaccinations (these were the easy ones—not the ones that made him feel so bad last month). He weighed in at 17 lbs, 10 oz and was 27.25 inches tall. His weight is in the 95th percentile, and his height is greater than 95th. Somebody notify Mack Brown of his future recruit! Spencer really showed off for the doctor—demonstrating "tummy time" and holding his head up like we had never seen before. (Do I sound like an obnoxious mom??) Not to state the obvious, but he's getting so big!

I know last week I said things were getting more predictable, but I should've known better. The only predictable thing in Newborn Land is that once you think you have something figured out, it changes. Spencer has gone back to waking up to eat twice between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. Considering his stats, maybe it's just a growth spurt. I miss that extra stretch of sleep, but I cherish our quiet time together in the middle of the night, too.

We went to Pine Fork last weekend to see Pop's new tractor. Dave had a blast working on the land. I had a blast taking a long, much-needed nap! And Spencer had a blast hanging with Geep and Pop...and sitting on the tractor with Daddy.

Oh yeah—I uploaded a new Picasa web album. Well, that's it for now. I just wanted to get something out there. Blogging is tough for a perfectionist...

16 Weeks - Time Flies

It's hard to believe Spencer is already 16 weeks old. He'll hit the four-month mark next Friday. David and I are having such a blast with him. We all seem to have found a rhythm, and while we're not on a strict schedule, things are definitely getting more predictable. What have we been up to...

We had a lovely day at the park across from Lady Bird Lake the weekend before last. Spencer just loves wearing those sunglasses—it's so funny!

Grannie came to visit last weekend. This was a momentous occasion—the first time she has ever driven to Austin alone. Keep in mind that I have lived here since 1994 or so, but it took a new grandson for her to take the plunge. We were very proud of her! She had lots of fun loving on the boy.

Spencer has gotten really good at rolling over and jumping in the Jumpster (we need new video of that!). He is also very focused on sucking on his hands, fingers and toys...pre-teething perhaps? Say it ain't so!

Here's a video I shot of Spencer hanging out in his crib one day. Enjoy!
